2004 Chapter Involvement
Ø 01-18-04 – Had a rider in the Trooper Tony Lumley memorial ride
Ø 01-24-04 – Six members attended the M.A.P.E.S. dinner banquet
Ø 01-27 & 28 – 04 – Had a vendors booth at the Georgia Sheriff’s
Association winter training conference. Distributed
a canvas bag containing literature and a COPS hands
on video tape
Ø 01-27-04 – A sponsor, Farmers & Traders Life Insurance, paid for
a ½ page ad in the annual Sheriff’s Association directory
distributed to all 159 counties and others on their mailing
list
Ø 02-09-04 – Three (3) GA-COPS members participated in a survivor
panel discussion at the national conference for “trauma of
law enforcement” sponsored by National COPS
Ø 04-04-04 – Attended and had riders in the Savannah Blue Knights
GA VIII annual Poker Run for COPS. Chapter received
A check for $4,000 from proceeds of the ride
Ø 04-24-04 – Attended, had riders and a vendors table at the annual
Police Memorial Ride at Turner Field. Chapter and
primary survivors received a check for $2,000 from the
proceeds of the ride sponsored by Newnan Blue Knights
GA VII chapter
Ø 05-01-04 – Had a rider in the Trooper Tony Lumley Memorial Ride
from Griffin to Macon
Ø 05-05-04 – Attended a memorial service at the Cobb County FOP
Lode # 13 in Marietta to honor Cobb’s fallen officers
Ø 05-03-04 – Bill Cash coordinated food during wake with restaurants
in Henry County for Sgt. Jimmy Gilbert’s family
Ø 05-04 and 05-05-04 – Attended funeral home visitation and funeral
for Sgt. Jimmy Gilbert
Ø 05-05-04 – Attended community awareness meeting sponsored by
Kennesaw PD. GA-COPS spokesperson discussed
The “fly the blue” program and passed out blue ribbons
Ø 05-12-04 – Chapter representative attended the Dekalb County PD’s
memorial service honoring all Dekalb’s fallen officers
Ø 05-13 thru 05-17 – Several chapter members attend National Police
week in Washington, DC. Issued checks to 2003
survivors totaling $3,700.00
Ø 05-14-04 – A chapter representative attended National COPS 20 year
gala dinner banquet in Washington, DC
Ø 05-21-04 – Several chapter members attended the Georgia Memorial
service in Forsyth. Also had a display table for attendees.
Chapter purchased a wreath to be displayed at the
memorial service
Ø 06-12-04 – Several chapter members worked a booth at the 1st annual
Day Lilly Festival in Gray, GA. Sold soft drinks, water
And snow cones, generating $239 in revenue for chapter
Ø 06-28 & 06-29 – Chapter representative attended the funeral home
visitation and funeral of Officer Rowe with Atlanta Police
Department. This was not a line of duty death. Chapter sent
flowers
Ø 07-08 thru 07-11-04 – Brenda Parker represented GA-COPS at
National COPS chapter training seminar in Missouri
Ø 07-16-04 – Chapter representative attended a kick off dinner hosted
by the Walker County Blue Knights GA in Chickamauga,
GA
Ø 07-26-04 – Bill Cash visited Officer Dwayne Penn with Clayton
County PD who was hospitalized with a gunshot wound
to the face
Ø 09-11-04 – Three chapter members worked a GA-COPS display booth
at the annual Fuzz Run sponsored by the Covington, GA
Police Department. Passed out blue ribbons to crowd
Ø 09-18-04 – Chapter representative attended the Houston County Poker
run and handed out ribbons to the bikers participating in
the ride
Ø 11-26-04 - Street corner collections for Blue Light Project
Ø 12-07-04 - Had a parade entry vehicle in the Gray, Georgia city
Christmas parade decorated in “project Blue Light” theme
Ø During Dec. – Had a major Blue Light Project campaign in the
Macon, Warner Robins, and Gray Georgia area of
Middle Georgia
Miscellaneous:
Ø Karla Finnegan built a new web site for GA-COPS
Ø GA-COPS instrumental in having several deceased officers added to
The ODMP, Georgia memorial wall and NLEOMF memorial wall
